mantel / Home Assistant

mantel, a home dashboard organized by what you control, not by room

My home's Home Assistant dashboard: every light, AC and device on one page, built on a design system of its own.

Role
Solo: design and build
Timeline
Since September 2026, in daily use
Stack
TypeScript, React, Vite, Playwright
Runs on
Home Assistant, as its default dashboard
The whole home on one page: lights on and dimmed, an AC's target raised, a timer set from a light's power button.
States come in from Home Assistant; every tap goes back out through it, and the card waits until Home Assistant confirms.
A light's modal: brightness, white temperature, then one of the room's scenes.
An AC's modal: on in Cool, the target down two degrees, then fan and swing.
The signature chart: a room's temperature, scrubbed back across the day.
A schedule of my own: the porch light on at sunset and off at 10 PM, every day.
Up next: what's scheduled, as a list or laid out across the day.
The front door asks before it unlocks, and each session lists what locked it.
Settings edits the same store the household automations read.
